What Makes This Place Special?
My second project used a more observational, qualitative approach to “site analysis” which will ultimately result in the creation of a map in which the path and all its subtlety is designated by a single line.
Traveling around the Cal Poly SLO campus, I chose the road behind the business building and besides the architecture department.
Slowly, I walked along this long path, sketching the entire way, a step at a time, and ended with the resulting drawing above. Each line movement and drawing represented a different aspect and feel of the path; I was really inspired by the shadows the tree casted onto the concrete road.
The final project was to be done on a 12 ft sheet of paper where we’d create our line path. Instead of using pen like the majority of the rest of the studio, I decided to hand cut my path out of black paper using an Xacto knife. The result is below:
